Interactive PDF’s

A crucial aspect of any successful, ongoing project involves clear and concise communication between the architect and the client. Interactive, three-dimensional PDF’s allow for the user to view and interact with three-dimensional content without the necessity or knowledge of 3D modeling or CAD programs. While this exciting technology has been around for several years, it often required advanced knowledge in CAD design and programming. Now, creation of 3D PDF’s is accessible to users with any amount of computer expertise.

Data-rich, interactive 3D PDF’s are useful for many fields, especially architecture. Without a trained eye or experience with construction documents, it is difficult for clients to understand the architecture from a two-dimensional perspective. With the ability to incorporate CAD models into three dimensions, the architect can clearly illustrate the intent of the design to the client or builder. Clients are also given the capability to toggle different elements of the model on and off, giving them a comprehensive understanding of the design, down to the impact of specific design decisions. Changes from hiding exterior walls to reveal interiors or structure to adding options that change the building roof structure and overall facade are now more accessible to everyone involved in project design.

3D PDF’s have the additional capacity to display animated renderings with live-motion pictures which can sell the project to builders, clients, or buyers alike, bringing the design to life. With animated renderings, clients can experience the final product and the ways in which the community can – and will – interact with the architecture. This advancement in three-dimensional presentation will allow for quicker and higher quality design decisions with an overall better end product.
